2" x 72" Belts from Combat Abrasives The SHREDDER CERAMIC belts are best for stock removal and are the most aggressive belts we offer. They are recommended to quickly prepare a blank or a custom forged piece to the shape required. The Ceramic Shredder line of belts are geared towards long life and high performance without breaking down to heat. ALUMINUM OXIDE (A/O) is a general purpose abrasive material-it is a less expensive material than ceramic or zirconia. It is widely used because the more expensive materials, ceramic and zirconia alumina, are often not needed in finer grits than 120 grit due to offering little over alumina oxide due to lower heat and durability requirements. Fundamentally, as the grit starts to move higher (finer) than 120 grit, there is no benefit to more expensive materials. This makes aluminum oxide a fantastic material for the majority of grits on soft to medium hardness materials that need to be shaped or grinded down. X WEIGHT Belts have a somewhat rigid backing made of a cotton-poly blend material, that still allows for some flexability. J FLEX belts have a very flexible backing material that is often used without a contact wheel and some slack in the belt so it can softly contour rounder shapes (e.g. a wooden handle). Surface Conditioning Belts are Non-woven belts made of an abrasive impregnated nylon material that is often used for the scratch pattern it leaves.
